The International Maritime Organization is taking further steps toward strengthening cybersecurity requirements across the global shipping industry.
During the latest IMO Facilitation Committee session (FAL 50), a proposal supported by the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) advanced efforts to introduce mandatory cybersecurity measures for maritime operations.
As ships become increasingly digitalized, cyber risks are now considered a major threat to:
- vessel navigation systems
- cargo operations
- communication networks
Industry experts warn that cyber incidents could disrupt global supply chains and compromise vessel safety.
For crewing companies, this trend increases demand for seafarers with knowledge of:
- ECDIS and digital navigation systems
- onboard IT procedures
- cybersecurity awareness
Our company continues to recruit and train crew members prepared to meet modern digital and safety requirements.
